Hello world..
Or much more likely, myself.
This is my first blog. I'm losing my blogger's virginity with each character I type. And adding yet another voice to the world wide web.
What to tell you? I work on a mine site in the Australian outback for two weeks at a time. Which is currently where I'm at now and it for the most part it is b.o.r.i.n.g. At least on the surface it is, hence the urge to vomit my creativity onto these crisp white screens.
I read some time ago a book called Not Buying It by Judith Levine and am interested if I chronicle my purchases over the course of a year what will others make of my consumerism, am I a greedy western world glutton, the undefinable but mass imposed 'norm', a prudish penny pincher or a scrouge? Possibly all at times and possibly none of these labels at all. I'll let you be the judge of that.
My second question is I wonder if by forcing myself to chronicle every single item I purchase, will it make me question what I spend and in turn change my spending habits?
I guess that's what I'll find out.
So here it goes Day 1;
Today I have purchased a small packet of Malteasers $2.00 (Chocolate covered Malt balls for anyone who isn't blessed enough to be acquainted with these little balls of heaven!) and a packet of instant noodles that I ate at my desk for lunch. (Yes I could have packed lunch this morning for free.. but I simply was not even close to awake when I stumbled out of bed this morning) at the ridiculous sum of $2.80. What a rip.
Total spending: $4.80 (Australian of course!)
Not too bad really, but I could have gone with out both of these purchases. Ah well... I never said I was a saint
